Family Literacy Project

The 21st CCLC Family Literacy Project is the parent engagement component of our After School Program.  Our goal is to provide a bridge to the school system for the parents of the most recent immigrant students enrolled in the after school program focused on the importance of reading as a means towards academic success.  The three key areas of our program are language arts development, technology training/access, and home visitations.  Our program is based on the belief that parent involvement in their children's educations improves student achievement and is most effective when it is comprehensive, supportive, and on-going, and a well-planned culturally-important to student success that family income or educational background.  We understand that schools need to collaborate with parents and community to help children adjust to the world of different cultural and language backgrounds.

After school program staff at grant-funded sites work directly with site staff including administration, teachers and district department parent liaisons to identify those target families most in need of support.  We use a global approach to developing literacy skills to assist parents' access information that will allow them to experience personal growth and needed support essential to enhancing their ability to support their children's learning and overall well being.
